The answer to this question depends on which domain name you wish to change. If you are referring to your sub-domain name that preceded myshopify.com, no, you cannot change this name. If you decide that you must change your sub-domain name, Shopify does provide instructions on how to duplicate your store. This can save you time when it comes to recreating your work. While this process is beyond the scope of this article, instructions are available here. Keep in mind that this URL is used to access your Shopify Admin console, so it is not customer-facing. This means that only you can see the changes that you make here.

Changing Your Storefront Domain

If you are referring to your customer-facing domain name, yes, you can change this domain. How you change this domain name depends on how you set up your domain in the first place. If you are using a third party domain name service, the process does vary depending on which service you are using.

Shopify also offers a domain name service, but it is relatively expensive compared to third-party options. The advantage is that it is much easier to configure. To change your domain name, click on “Online Store” then “Domain.” You can select from any domain names that you have purchased. If you want to choose a new domain name, you must first buy the new name. You can still use the old domain name as long as you own it, but you cannot get a refund for unused time.

Changing Your Store Name
